AN OVERGROWN woodland in Sydenham is finally getting some much-needed TLC.
Campion School, Age UK Warwickshire, and The Tree Council have teamed up to bring an acre and a half of woodland reserve back into use for pupils and dementia sufferers.
The reserve, which is located within the Sydenham Drive school’s grounds, was first planted back in 2004 as a project to encourage pupils from nearby schools to help appreciate nature and the environment. But after becoming overgrown the area is now set to
be completely transformed – making it more accessible for pupils as a nature learning hub and as a space where those with dementia can relax.
This week volunteers from Leamington-based company and Pentlands client
Fuel Recruitment began the task of clearing the grass and weeds from the reserve.
The area has a wealth of wildlife and trees in need of care and as the project goes forward, tree wardens from The Tree Council will be on hand to train volunteers about the needs of the on-site trees.
The joint project will receive support through funds left by the late actor Norman Painting, of The Archers fame, who was patron of Age UK Warwickshire and a vice president of The Tree Council. It will be entirely led by volunteers and bosses are keen for more
people to get involved.
