A floral designer who suddenly discovered she could draw is expanding her business with a new botanically-inspired gift and homeware collection.
Sarah Horne, who has operated out of her florist studio in Royal Leamington Spa since 1980, has spent her adult life immersed in all things floral; the colours, textures, fragrances and diversity of form have all mesmerised her. Put simply, she has always loved flowers.
Over the years, Sarah has demonstrated her floral designs internationally and competed widely, achieving 3 Chelsea Gold Medals and the prestigious accolade of Chelsea Florist of the Year 2011.
Almost by chance, whilst working on a project to take Royal Leamington Spa to the Chelsea Flower Show, Sarah discovered her affinity for art. Her natural creativity went wild and she began to ex-periment with all manner of carriers for her distinctive pen and ink drawings, from fine bone china to glass candle holders to goose eggs. Her studio atop her shop, nestled within the heart of the clas-sic Regency architecture of Leamington, even houses her long-term side-project: an illustrated os-trich egg. The intricate illustrations, largely black-and-white with the odd splash of colour, draw the eye onto a journey through botanical beauty.
Sarah, with many years in product development herself and a solid investment behind her new ven-ture, consolidated her wide-ranging ideas to realise Sarah Horne Botanicals, a range of high-end gifts and homeware. The collection currently includes candles and room fragrances scented with natural fragrance combinations, fine bone china, original art and cards – all made in England to a very high standard, appealing to all tastes from classical to contemporary.
The classical medium of pen and ink somewhat hides Sarah’s unique and quirky character. Along-side sustaining a high street business through two recessions, her creativity never ceases to pour and her philosophy that growth comes from actively expanding her comfort zone has led not only to designing china cups, but to designing tattoos and being a life model!
