World Bee Day – A catch up with Tom

The 20th of May was World Bee Day, so we thought it would be a great opportunity to catch up with our former teammate, Tom Barber, who left us last year to join his family’s business – Honey Fields Bee Farm.

Tom said: “It’s a big change from working at Pentlands as an accountant. I am looking after the business finances here at Honeyfields Bee Farm and every day brings new lessons. I really value the experience I gained working at Pentlands and I loved working with the clients. It gave me a great foundation in understanding how different businesses run, the challenges they face and how the management of the financial information and cashflow are critical.”

“My brother and the team are highly experienced beekeepers, specialising in honey production and breeding queen bees for sale, and we are one of the largest producers of Pure English Honey in the Midlands. We have over 500 honey producing hives equating to millions of honeybees!

“Everything is going well on the honey farm and the bees are really strong going into this year. The weather is critical for us, fortunately we have had good conditions so far, although it was a little cooler in April than normal for the time of year. A spell of bad weather can really affect our businesses. We do quite literally take one day at a time.”

It was great to catch up with Tom and hear how the business is going. If you are a fan of English honey, then check out the Honey Fields Bee Farm online shop – www.honeyfieldsbeefarm.co.uk/english-honey/
